Dear Board of Supervisors,
My name is Noa and I’d like to tell you that it would be very nice to keep the library we have now, I understand that there are some issues with the small library and that it can get crowded. I also heard that the maximum is 50 people, I can’t argue, that is a small number. But, every time I go to the library it isn’t crowded.
If you’re worried about parking, that really isn’t the major issue with the library. Some people live so close to the library they can walk to it. Others might be doing something across the street from the library like finishing up a slice of pizza at Crozet Pizza and just walk across the street. Most people just park at Over the Moon bookstore and walk across to to the library if the parking lot is full.
The library is in a great place too. Every time I finish dance I always go to the library and get a book. The library is in the perfect spot. Here’s a question for you, will the spot you want the library in attract more or as much attention that it does now? Can the possibilities be that the spot that it’s in would actually be the best for it?
Another question. What will you do with the library we have right now when the new one is built? No wrecking balls? Right?
Yours sincerely,
Noa K.
I have lived in Crozet or in a community served by the Crozet Library all of my life (46 years, soon to be 47) and the Crozet Library as you know it is the fourth Crozet Library I have known! You know the little, teeny tiny building with the columns beside Crozet Pizza? What if I, as a kid, had wanted MY library to stay the same? That’s the library you would have today! Each space the library has moved in to has been better, and better. This is good. I suggest you read Secrets of the Blue Ridge: The Library of Crozet for more information.
Also, it is important to note that the Crozet Library doesn’t just serve the kids and families in Crozet. I now live in Greenwood but the Crozet Library is my community library as well. Batesville, Newtown, Greenwood, Hillsboro, Boonesville, Ivy, etc are all in the Crozet Library service area. Having a better library might attract more commerce to downtown Crozet as well, as people from these other communities will feel like it is worth their time and effort to come to the library. Go to Google Maps and type in Greenwood, VA as your location and search for library. Then look at all of the community names on the western side of Albemarle County that are served by the Crozet LIbrary.
Many of the people in my community do not have high speed internet and cable TV is not available. I hope the school kids who live on my street can use the library to work on their wikis and blogs and do internet research like many other kids can do from their living room at night!
This was my library for much of my childhood.
I will be a proud citizen when this becomes my library.
