We have learned so much about Canada over the past two weeks! The second graders are becoming experts. Although they have learned so many facts there is always more to learn. Here are some fun facts about Canada!

- Canadians consume more macaroni and cheese than any other country in the world

- There haven’t been mail deliveries on a Saturday in Canada for the past 35 years

- Until 1924 cars drove on the left side of the road in the province of Prince Edward Island (where I am moving next year!)

- 70% of the world’s maple syrup is produced in Quebec

- Half of the province Alberta is covered in forests

- 50% of the world’s polar bear population live in Nunavut

- The sun shines for almost 3 months non stop in certain parts of Yukon in the summer. In the winter that same part doesn’t see sun for 3 months.

Last week I had to miss a day of being at St. Stephen because I was at a swimming competition with my team. I am on the Calvin College swim team and we had our big championship meet! We had practiced all year for it and we finally got on a bus and went to Holland to swim against other schools. I wanted to share what a great time it was so that you all know how much fun it can be to be on a sports team. I love being able to do something active and being with my friends. One of my favorite things to do when I’m at a swim meet is to cheer for my friends. Here is a picture of me and my friend cheering…

Some second graders asked me how we did at the meet and I was so excited to tell them that we won! We all worked together and won our 8th year in a row! Here is another picture of the team celebrating. The best part about winning was that we got to push our coaches in the water… in their clothes! It was so much fun :)

I am so excited to be starting my own kidblog! All of the 2nd graders have such great posts already that are great to look at. Today we took some pictures of our class with their animals that they brought in to use for our skit at mass. They did a great job telling the story of creation! I took the pictures and made a little video for us to remember what we talked about today :)
