Today fierce storms of winter came. Karena almost got pulled in. The next day she seen a boat. She wondered who it was. It was the white men. They come to take her and Rontu-Aru. She asked them what happened to her family. They said that it sunk in a bad storm. She was very sad. She went to get her otter cape but they wanted her to were a hand made dress. She went with them.
Interesting part: When they said her family ship sunk.
Anticipate: The ship sunk.
Infer: That she will get there.
summary:
Karana turned over her canoe so she could sleep in the shade. Whild sh was under the canoe something waas rumbling outside. On Karana’s way back an earthquake began to happen. The earthquake destroyed her food, weapons, and her canoe that was in the cave. When she went down to the beach to get seaweed she saw a boat. The boat left when it didn’t see anyone or any otter. Two years later the boat came back. She put blue clay on her face as a mark of her tribe. The wite men frome the ship made her a dress she was taken from the island and told that her peoples ship had sunk.

summary:The birs=ds that Karana captured were stealing fur off of Rontu’s back so he hid from them. She found a gull that had fallen out of a tree and broken his leg. She said the yard was a happy place. She changed the name Mon-a-nee to Won-a-nee because he was a mother now. The otters moved to Tall Rock to hide from the Aleuts. One summer the otter didn’t leave Coral Cove. That summer Rontu died. Rontu was dying in the wild dogs’ cave. On her way to the place where the sea elephants lived she saw Rontu’s son.She used snares to catch him. She mixed xuchal with their water so they would fall asleep. She named Rontu’s son Rontu-Aru.

summary:
Karana met an Aleutian girl. She burned small fish for fire and light. She learned thaat the Aleut girl’s name was Tutok. Tutok liked Won-a-pa-lei’s skirt made of cormaorant feathers. Karana did not trust Tutok with the skirt. Tutok called the shirt wintshca which meant pretty. Tutok made Karana a necklace made of black stones. She put it on so Tutok wouldn’t be sad or angry. Tutok and Won-a-pa-lei tought each other words from their tribe. Won-a-pa-lei made a plate for Tutok’s hair. The Aleuts had hurt some of the otter so karana killed them because they were suffering. She met an otter that she named Mon-a-nee. Mon-a-nee means Little Boy with Big Eyes.

summary: Karana gathered food and made weapons to pass the time away. She saw it was spring because flowers were starting to bloom. She let Rontu out of the house because he was whining. He didn’t come back for many days. She soon saw he had a fight with to other dogs. Karana took eggs forom a nest by her house so she wouldn’t be lonely. Once they hatched she lipped the birds wings so they wouldn’t fly away. She name the birds Tainor and Lurai. She thaught how the women in her tribe had cut their hair short as a way to show morning. Won-a-pa-lei liked the red abalones best. She found devilfish in the shallow wateranthought it was looking for food. The devil fish started attacking Rontu and she stabbed it. She had Rontu watch her drying abalones so the gulls wouldn’t steal them. She killed ten carmaorants so she could make a skirt out of their feathers. She found skeletons in a cave and was sure that they were her ancestors.
