Mr. N's Class

Summary:  Kavik moves about the city trying to get home.  He gets hit my a car, runs through a shop.  He finds the boats and one that smells familiar.  He hides in the day and eats food from restaurants trash in the night.  He goes every night to the dock and stares at the water.  A women starts talking to him.  She sees him every night and feels like he is not a stray but is on a mission.  The dog catchers collect the stray dogs.  The woman accidentally helps them to catch Kavik not knowing that is what they were doing.  She wants to keep the dog.

Summary:  Kavik arrives at Mr Hunters house.  Edna wont let him stay in side so he is put into a pin with a concrete floor.   No one talks to him or pets him.  Finally he meets Mr. McCarty who is nice to him.  Mr Hunter wants to know why he is so sad.  Mr McCarty says he needs to run.  They let him out of the pin to run and he messes up the bushes and makes Edna mad.  Now Mr. McCarty takes him for walks everyday.  Kavik seems sad and lonely and looks as if he is plotting a way to get home.  Mr Hunter takes him for his walk one day when a small dog barks at him and scares him.  Mr Hunter is mad and says he is weak and that Kurt tried to tell him this but he did not believe it.  He says he is taking him to the show he is having then he is going away.  At the show Kavik jumps out a window.  Mr McCarty steers everyone in the other direction and lets Kavik go free.

Summary:  Now the Kavik was moving he was getting better quickly.  He stayed outside during the day always in sight of the house.  He followed Kurt to work and Andy to school.  Andy and Kavik travel the trap line to the wreck site.  Kavik is very timid.  Since Kavik is better Kurt says he has to notify Mr Hunter but has agreed to wait until his return, which will allow Kavik to regain strength.  Andy go to town to look for a job and Kavik follows along.  A pack of stray dogs jumps Kavik and he allows them to even the smallest one.  Pinky Davis makes fun of him calling him a rabbit.  When he returns home he tells his parents and they explain that physically he is better but mentally he has not recovered.  He may have lost his fight.  Andy’s dad tells him a story about when he lost his boat and people went missing he lost his fight too.  Now he just plays it safe working and saving money for a house of their own again and for Andy’s college.  When Andy returned home Kavik was not there to greet him like always.  When he got inside he learned the Mr Hunter took him and never even allowed Kurt to buy him.

Summary:  Andy and Kurt take the dog to Dr Walkers.  He tells them to only come and night and through the back door to see the dog.  Dr Walker was very impressed about how Andy moved Kavik and was able to keep from harming him more.  While visiting Kavik, Andy can see he is getting better, the IV fluids are stopped and he is eating.  Dr Walker said he just needs time to heal.  Then Gabby comes into the doctor office and sees to dog.  As soon as he is gone Andy and Dr Walker take Kavik back to Andy’s.   Kavik sleeps in the corner at Andy’s and has bad dreams about how mean Charlie One Eye was too him and how little he had to eat.  He also dreams about the bad thing. the plane wrecking.  Slowly he realizes this is his new life.  He finally starts to walk and Dr Walker feels like he will have a full recovery.  Andy continues to try to hand feed Kavik but he will not, until he starts walking again and one night he eats out of Andy’s hands.  The first night of walking Kavik is very tired but after everyone is in bed he slowly climbs the stairs to find Andy’s bedroom and sleeps on the floor beside the bed.

Summary:  It starts with Andy being awaken by his dad who came to look for him.  Andy told his dad he found Smiley Johnson’s plane and that he was dead.  They took that dog home and Andy’s dad said he was going to call Mr.  Hunter to tell him they found the dog but he was not going to make it.  Kurt, Andy’s dad, says that Mr. Hunter said to shot the dog, but he agrees to let Andy got the doctor.  Dr Walker agrees to come to the house because he thinks it is for Laura, Andy’s mom.  Dr Walker does not think the dog will live, but finally agrees to take the dog to his house for treatment but he does not want anyone to know.
