The Killer Whale
Physical Appearance
The killer whale has a blowhole and a row of 50 teeth. The killer whale’s back and sides are black and the stomach is white. The killer whale female fluke is 6 ft. (1.2) meters and the males fluke is 9 ft.( 2.7) meters. The fluke is the part of the back fin. The fin makes it very, very, fast, up to 30 miles per hour. A male dorsal fin on the killer whale is way larger then a female dorsal fin. The male dorsal fin is 6 ft. tall. They have a very big grey saddle patch on there back.
The Killer Habitat
Killer whales live in water from the tropical to the arctic waters in both coasts and deep oceanic waters. They are in all the world’s oceans and most of the seas in the big world. They of course like cold water and stay 500 miles within the rocky shore. They live in groups called pods; a pod has 5 to 50 animals in it.
The Killer Offspring Lifespan and Life Span
Adult killer whales give birth to a single baby every 3 to 10 years, they can have twins but it is very rare. Babies are born tail first. When they are born they are 7 to 8 feet long and 400 lbs. They start having babies at ages 14 to 15 years. It takes 16 to 17 years to develop in there mom. Babies nurse for 1 year. Almost half the babies die in one year. Each female whale has about 4 to 6 offspring. Males live for 50 years and females live for 90 years.
