Exactly how valuable is a Christian education for our children?

If you are “shopping around” for a school for your child, you may be considering many things. You will surely want a school where your child will receive a very strong foundation in the basics of reading, writing, and math. You will want a school where your child is equipped with skills in modern technology for today’s and tomorrow’s world. It would be great to have training in science, social studies, music, art, and physical education. Caring and well-qualified teachers are very important also. You will want a school where your child will feel secure, loved, and appreciated.

Our Lord tells us in His Word that one thing is needed: His Word. That Word of God is a precious treasure that we have waiting for your child every day at Emanuel. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”

When you decide to give your child a Christian education, you are giving a priceless treasure!

How great it is that we have been blessed with the opportunity to watch our Green Bay Packers team play in the Super Bowl! During this blah time of the year we love having an exciting event happening.

Our class has been talking about our many earthly blessings and also our spiritual blessings. We are so rich in both! Certainly we treasure all of the things that we need to live our life on this earth. We have even been given many blessings that we do not really need. But then we remember our more important spiritual blessings. Have you ever thought about where you would be spiritually if you had not been given the Word of God? This and a Savior to win the forgiveness of our sins have given us the “ticket” to heaven that we will need when we pass out of this earthly life.

So don’t worry if you don’t have a ticket to the Super Bowl! You have a much more important ticket to the Super Bowl in heaven!

I was touched by the great love shown by my second graders and their families this week. These children and their families were not thinking of themselves only when they brought gifts to school this week. They did bring gifts for the gift exchange, but they did much more than that. They brought  gifts for children who do not have as much this Christmas. There were so many gifts brought that our box was overflowing! It was heartwarming to see the generosity of God’s people in New London. The Lord was blessing others through these Emanuel second graders and their parents.

Today the gifts were given to a family who has had a tough time this past year. Two of the members of the family have found out during the past year that they have cancer, so they have many medical bills. They were so overwhelmed by the gifts that were given to them that they were speechless at first. They were very thankful for everything and told me to thank you all for them.

You have chosen such a wonderful way to show love for our Savior who has shown such great love for all of us! Thank you very much for this and also for the wonderful gifts which you gave to me! I appreciate your love and support.

We have the opportunity to join other members of God’s family in praising Him for His blessings at our 9 a.m. service this coming Sunday. This service will be held in the gymnasium. It will begin with fellowship in the school commons before the service and will be followed with an Open House in the school after the service.

All of the children of our school have been practicing a beautiful song to sing at this service. We will have a 2:15 practice in the gym together tomorrow (Friday). There will also be another practice on Saturday morning, November 13, at 9 a.m. for those students who can make it. On Sunday morning the children will sit with their families and will be called forward when the time comes for them to sing. After their song, they will again join their families.

May the Lord bless this celebration and all of His people!

We now have a new way to practice our spelling words. It is called Spelling City.   I have added it to our Grade 2 page. It will give you the spelling words when you click on the unit and will allow you to play a variety of spelling games. I will plan to enter each week’s list of spelling words on the Friday before we take the spelling tests.

This week’s unit for November 1-5 is unit 4a.

I hope you will try this out if you have internet access and allow your child to play some of these games. We will also be using some of them at school.
