The second graders have been learning about adjectives, and the students wrote poems to describe the snowflakes they created.  Then they recorded themselves reciting their poems using an iPad Application called Audio Memos.

First of all, a BIG thank you goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Goehring for helping the second grade students on their learning journey in the 21st Century!

We are soooo excited to receive an iPad from them!!!  The students have been exploring quite a few apps.  The first one is called iChalk. They have been practicing their spelling words using iChalk during their word work reading rotation. If you scroll down below, you will find some interesting penguin facts using the iChalk app too.
There are also some free iBooks that I downloaded for the students to listen and read. A favorite story already is Toy Story.  The animation is captivating!
During math, some apps that the kids have explored are UnderSea Math and Math Magic.  Both of these apps reinforce basic math and can be set to challenge any mathematician.  There are many levels in both of these apps.
I am looking forward to having the students record themselves and create stories using Puppet Pals HD too.
A few of the apps that I downloaded on the iPad, but have not yet explored, are Rocket Math, LetterLand, Boggle, Read Me Stories, Flashcardsplus, Baby Animals, Zoo Who
, and Google Earth.

Check back often to see what we are doing with this awesome new technology tool!

The second grade classes had a lot of fun boarding the Polar Express and going places! It all starting with a greeting from the conductor, our principal, Mrs. Mountain. Then the students went from room to room to take part in some fun activities on the train. Of course, a sweet break was needed too. The kids sipped hot chocolate and ate candy canes. Ms. Andrews, our music teacher, also taught the kids the Hot Chocolate song. A Polar Express Web quest and other fun crafts were part of the trip too. We found out how cold it is at the North Pole, why Santa chose reindeer to help him out, how to say Merry Christmas in Italian, and what The Northern Lights were. Hop aboard and view the fun things we did!
