How to Separate Salt, Gravel, and Diatomaceous Earth.

Hi guys,
Today in science class we had to separate salt, gravel, and diatomaceous earth. While we were doing that we wrote done what the steps were to separate all the materials.

  1. Separate the diatomaceous earth from the gravel and salt with coffee filter
  2. Separate the salt and gravel using screen filter.
  3. Pour the mixture of the salt and gravel through the screen filter as many times as it takes to completly separate the salt and gravel

If you want a challenge you should try and do this at your house. If you try this project tell me how it worked out on my blog.

    Jordan, Ryan, and Nate,

I had my students pick the procedures they thought were easiest to follow from the five different posts. They have done this experiment at least two times, once in fifth grade and again last year in seventh grade. I thought they would have good background knowledge to make a good evaluation.

Why do you think that the students did not choose your post?
