My mom enjoys reading. She tries to read every night. She doesn’t have the opportunity to read as often as she would like but she does read everyday. She likes inspirational, self help, and fantasy books. My mom started reading at a very young age. Her favorite book as a kid was The Three Bears and her favorite book now is Make Every Day a Friday. Her parents tried to read to her and her siblings every night. Their attitude towards reading was to read everyday and to read everything they could, including recipes, newspapers, and can goods.
If my mom had a choice to read the book or see the movie first she would read the book. The other sources she uses besides print books are computers, newspapers, and magazines . She normally reads for forty minutes or reads about three chapters .
When my mom is reading a book she imagines herself in that time period. Rarely has my mom not finished a book because she chooses her books carefully. But if she did it would be because the book wasn’t going anywhere.
When my mom was in reading class they had to answer questions out of a text book. Also, they sat in a circle and talked about books that the class read. One of the good memories that my mom had was when the reading teacher would call on her to read. One of the bad memories that my mom had, when she was younger, was when her dad read her scary stories and caused her to have nightmares. My mom didn’t really have bad memories about reading except for that. My mom gets distracted from reading when she has to do a lot of stuff around the house. These distractions will sometimes keep her from reading.
When my mom reads she can relate to the characters. Whenever my mom finishes a book she thinks about the things that she learned . My mom reads to me. The first book that she read to me was Good Night Moon and the first book that I read on my own is If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. My mom doesn’t have to encourage me to read because I love to read. My mom thinks that when you read you can explore places you have never been and learn new things. It also enhances your vocabulary.
