My Mom loves to read. My Mom started reading when she was four. Her Mom taught her at their kitchen table while they made mandu (korean dumplings). She learned Korean letters and English words. As a kid my Mom’s favorite books were Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little. When my Mom went to reading class, they read outloud and made plays of the books they read. She would also draw pictures from the storie she read.
A good memory my Mom has about reading is her Mom reading to her at night. A bad memory she has about reading was reading a book that was too hard for her. Work-related e-mails distract my Mom from reading when she’s trying to read an interesting novel. My Mom also reads books or articles off the i-pad or New York Times.
When my Mom is reading, she has a giant movie playing in her head and likes to read a book first before watching a movie of the book; she often likes the movie in her head more than the real movie itself. When my Mom finishes a book, she thinks about it and sometimes talks to my Dad about it. Reading is such an entertaining thing because it allows her to enter into different worlds that you may never be able to experience in your life.
