”The queen lay on a large four-posted bed, her eyes closed, her face peaceful”

page 7 in Peter and the Sword of Mercy  by  Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

I would think this queen in her castle. Just resting on her bed her eyes closed thinking or resting. She is away from the stress and her royal life. She would just be having quiet time.  Or she is dead and there might be people around her in her room crying because of her death. There might be a priest praying for her.  Saying religious prays and singing religious songs.  She is just lying there peacefully.

HI! it’s Nicki and my mom.  In this blog you  will learn about my mom as a reader.   Enjoy!

My mom first started reading when she was six in first grade.  When my mom was a kid, she loved Curious George books.  Her favorite Curious George book was Curious George goes to the Hospital.   In my mom’s school, reading class was a lot of comprehension sheets.    Everyone  in the grade was in the same reading class.  My mom doesn’t remember her parents reading to her, buy they probably did.  Her parents think reading is great and important.

My mom encourages my sister, Ainsley, and I to read.  She encourages us by no TV during the week.  She tries to find books that interest us.  My mom use to read to us when we were little.  Sometimes she still reads to us.  The first book my mom read to me was Hug.  The first book I read on my own was the Mac and Tab books.

My mom reads every other day for about an hour.  But, when my mom reads a really good book she doesn’t put it down. My mom likes historical fiction, fiction, and biographies.  What goes on in my moms head while she is reading a book is a movie.  My mom relates to the characters in the books she reads.  She usually reads the book before the movie.  My mom has abandoned a book because it wasn’t interesting. When she  finishes a book, she likes talking about the book with friends that already read it.  Other sources my mom uses to read are newspapers,  magazines,  and iPads.  What distracts her from reading is other responsibilities.

I have some more recommendations for you.  There is S C A T.  Scat is about two students trying to find out what happened to their teacher.  My reading class and I are reading a book called Bud, Not Buddy.  It’s about an orphan who is trying to figure out who his dad is from clues left from his mom.  So far I have been enjoying a book called Peter and the Starcatchers.  It’s about orphans that are going to London.  On the boat Peter one of the orphans has to deal with magic.

I hope you all give these books a try.  In your comments tell me your recommendations.

I think Peter and the Starcatchers is a good book so far.  I never thought it would be funny.  The book is about boy orphans going to Rundoon,London and they  have to face consequences on the ship they’re on.  Most of the story takes places on the ship. Some of the characters are Peter, one of the orphans  Molly, a passenger on the ship  Blaack Stache, a pirate  Slank,  a staff member of  the the orphan’s ship and many more.

What I want to remember about this book is how descriptive it is.  I can make a movie in my head.  I can really get a good idea about what’s going on.   The way the author is describing the book I think it will be a good book.  An example when he was being descriptive is when the he describes the boat the orphans are on. He describes how the staff members are lazy, also how untidy the boat is, and how horrible the food is.   I think the author deserves an A+ on the description.  I think  you should read the book.

Hello!!

I started this new book called Peter And The Starcatchers. It is like a different version of Peter Pan.   So far it has a good start.   I think it will be a good book.  The authors are Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.  I can’t wait to tell you more about the book later.
