Now this is a truely exciting story. Hades, By Feiwel and friends is a Fantasy book. I found it at Barnes and Noble. I do realize the common phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” But this one really caught my eye. It showed a girl with wings riding on the back of a motorcycle with a man with long hair driving in the front, also it shows cracks in the earth that are glowing orange and red. This is how I had come to read this book, and by reading the description on the back, became interested.

The main character is Bethany. Bethany is a 18 year old angel who lives with her 2 siblings: Archangel Gabriel, Seraphim Ivy. She also has a human boyfriend named Xavier. The story starts out around Halloween time and Bethany and her friends are talking about what they are going to do for that Halloween night on Friday. Molly, Bethany’s best friend, idiotically suggests they have a seance. Every one agree’s accept Bethany because she has dealt with the dead and spirits before, and know’s what could happen. When the night comes the go to the abandoned mansion, where a group of 8th graders invited everyone to come to a party. The friends trick Bethany into participating in the seance and disaster strikes them hard. Jake Thorn, a demon prince from the Third Circle in Hades is summoned, after he was harshly banished for trying to set the world on fire in the first book, “Halo”. Bethany is completly freaked out.  She runs out of the mansion and frantically looks for Xavier.Just then, before she could run any farther Wesley, one of Xavier’s friends, pulls up on a motorcycle right  in front of her. He tells her that Xavier jumped off a tree branch and into the water, he then hit his head on some rocks and is not moving. He tells her to get on his motorcycle and that he will take her to help him. She does so. But, instead of him taking her down into the woods, he pulls up onto the highway. Bethany then see’s Xavier walking towards the mansion on the highway and Wesley pulls up and stops. Bethany soon found out that it wasn’t Wesley, but her  x-boyfriend/demon prince Jake Thorn. Bethany tries to scramble off but finds her hands are glued around him by some kind of force. Xavier tries to run to her but he bounces off some magnetic force feild. Jake then peels out and slams his motorcycle against Xavier, causing him to be unconsious. Jake takes Bethany through a portal and down into Hades, where he then swipes her memory and traps her in a penthouse in Hotel Ambrosia all by herself for weeks! Apparently, this is all part of King Lucifer’s (King of the Underworld and Jake’s father) plan. To bring one of Heaven’s own down to Hell, expecting them to break the balance and start a war between angel’s and demons, in their trouble’s to bring her back home.

Between missing her family, having to deal with Jake, and longing to save and be with her boyfriend, Bethany has a lot in store for her.

That’s all I will tell you for now. If you want to learn more about the book, ask me and you can read it if you like.

You Know Where I Am.

Mocking Jay is the third book in the very popular Hungar Games series! This book is VERY interesting, but I don’t know how much i can tell you about it without revealing too much, I don’t think that’s a problem though…   ANYWAYS!  The story starts off at when Katniss visits district Twelve, which is now in ruins because President Snow ordered the capitol army to blow up the whole district. She looks at the remains of her old town and finds that the Victors Village was completely untouched! Katniss goes into her house and finds a fresh white rose! Pretty creepy!

A Quarter of the way through the book is boring.  All it talks about is Katniss’s new life in District 13, having to constantly follow the boring routine that is imprinted on her arm in fresh ink every day. The funny part is that she is marked as “Mentally Disoriented”. She is always considered for people to be careful around her from that point because they had just recently rescued her from the Hunger Games 75 Quarter Quell. Soon Katniss agrees to be District 13′s icon, or what they call, “The Mocking Jay” but only on a few conditions, she wanted Peeta, Johanna, Enobaria, and other capitol prisoners that were tributes to be freed. Also, to be able to cut out of her schedule to be able to go hunting with Gale. Later, the rescue mission to rescue the imprisoned tributes is a success, and Katniss is overjoyed to see that Peeta is well. This leads to DISASTER though because Peeta has been tortured by President Snow! He has been injected with TrackerJacker venom, and now all of his GREAT memories of loving Katniss have turned into memories of HATING Katniss! When katniss tried to hug Peeta he strangled her! They could no longer be together…or CAN they???

In sort of the middle, Katniss and Gale and their fellow assigned soldiers  went into the now beaten down capitol to finish a long started War. They now have all the Districts on District 13′s side, even Disrict 2, the Capitol’s main weaponry/army base. So troops head off into the battle at all sections of the huge place. Many people die because of the pods set up that unleash deadly weapons. The comander Boggs dies because a mine  blows his legs off. Many others die from pod contraptions. Soon it gets down to Katniss, Gale, and Peeta fighting at the center of the capitol, were President Snow’s mansion is. Many capitol citizens are shot or die from pods activating. President Snow uses his towns peoples’ children as a human sheild. Silver parachutes that are secretly bombs send down. The children pick them up and they activate, blowing some children up. A distict 13 airplane sends down nurses, one of these is Katniss’s little sister Prim . Katniss spots her and yells, “Prim!!” , Katniss reads the words “Katniss?” from Prim’s lips. And thats when…….

IM NOT SURE THAT I AM ALLOWD TO TELL YOU THIS BUT…..

The Bomb thats in Prim’s hand goes off and….

Prim dies.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Hello! The book I read is called Breaking Dawn. It is the last book in the Twilight series, and is VERY magical! But, I must warn you…the first part of the book is very gushy and lovey-dovey. There is a lot of grown-up stuff happening. So if you are not a mature person then I would advise you to not read this book. Other than that, the rest of the book is pretty magical! Below you will find that I put a little preveiw of the book for you:

Preview of Breaking Dawn:

This is a little excerpt from chapter one: ENGAGED

No one is staring at you, I promised myself. No one is staring at you. No one is staring at you.

But, because I couldn’t lie convincingly even to myself, I had to check. As I sat I sat waiting for one of the three trafic lights in town to turn green, I peeked to the right-in her minivan, Mrs.Weber had turned her whole torso in my direction. Her eyes bored into mine, and I flinched back, wondering why she didn’t drop her gaze or look ashamed. It was still considered rude to stare at people, wasen’t it? Didn’t that apply to me anymore?

The Three Parts of my Book:

  •      Part One: Bella’s Point of view, based on Bella and Edward ‘s wedding and their honeymoon on Esme’s Island.
  •      Part Two: Jacob’s Point of view, based on how Jacob finds out that Bella is pregnant and how he leaves his pack because they want to kill the baby and Jacob thinks it’s wrong so he starts his own pack
  • Part Three: Bella’s point of view again, how he turns her into a vampire and she gets a power…..so on…..since I am not aloud to tell you the rest…

A Few chapters from my book:

  1. Engaged
  2. Long Night
  3. Big Day
  4. Gesture
  5. Isle Esme
  6. Distractions
  7. Unexpected

I chose to read this book because I absolutely LOVE the Twilight series! I also wanted to read the book instead of watching the movie because when you read the book YOU get to imagine what the characters look like, YOU get to imagine what the setting  and all around look like! That is the magic of books! In the movies someone else is making up what they look like for you. Well, sure, it looks cool and all, but it just takes away all the magic of YOUR imagination! That’s why I chose to read this book.

You will have to read the book for yourself to find out the ending!                                                                   This essay written by: Brooke B.
