Peter Pan

By J.M. Barrie

The book Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie is not what you might think. Many people don’t think to read this book because of the movies that have been made from it. It is a good book for people who like action packed adventure books. This book you might like because it is a short book. The book starts out in London, England in the early 1940′s.  The main characters are Wendy, Michael, John, Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Peter Pan picks up Wendy, Michael and John unexpectedly and brings them to Neverland. In Neverland, Captain Hook and his pirates want to destroy Peter Pan. One of the many differences be tween the book and the movies is when Peter makes hollow trees which lead underground to a bedroom for Wendy, Michael and John. If you have seen the cartoon version of the movie made by Disney, that does not happen. Also in the book there is a fight at the lagoon where the mermaids are, which is not in the movie. These examples of the differences between the movie and the book are reasons why you should read the book even it you have seen the classic movie. The book follows the main characters from adventure to adventure trying to stay away from Captain Hook. One of my favorite parts of the book is where Captain Hook and Peter Pan battle at the lagoon. During this battle, Peter and Captain Hook meet face-to-face and Peter steals Hooks knife from his belt. This turns out to be very important in the end. You will have to read the book to find out what happens.

Catcher
with a Glass Arm

By:
Matt Christopher

Catcher with a Glass Arm is a great book for people who like to read
sports books especially baseball books. The main characters of the book are a boy
named Jody and his pet cat Midnight. Jody is the catcher for his little league baseball team the
Dolphins. The book takes place mostly at a baseball field and the town that Jody and Midnight live in. At first Jody, as a
catcher, doesn’t have very good aim when he throws it to second. When he is at
bat he is afraid of the ball and steps back when he swings. If you do that you
will miss most of the time, but at the end he gets better at and all those
things don’t happen any more. I liked this book because I play baseball. I have played catcher a few times and it is hard. It is hard to make a perfect throw to secondbase because it is a far distance. Jody practices catching and throwing and hitting and it makes him better.

Jody cat, Midnight, gets in a lot of trouble. Midnight is Jody’s best friend. This is how Midnight gets in trouble, he gets scared by a dog and climbs up a light pole and then he chases something into a cave and into a pool of water in the cave. He almost gets hit by lightning in a thunderstorm. Jody has to help Midnight not get hurt. I also like this book becuase I have had cats and I like pets. That is why I recommend the book to people who like to read baseball books and books that are about pets.

The book I read was Babe and Me by Dan Gutman. This book is about a kid named Joe but his base ball team calls him Stosh. Stosh goes back in time  to 1932 with his dad to get 75 baseballs signed by the great Babe Ruth,so when they come back to our time the baseballs will be wqrth thousands of dollars. They also want to catch Babe Ruth’s called shot in game three of the nineteen thirty-two World Series. Oh yeah, Stosh’s dad lost his job or got fired or got laid off well you know what I mean. Now Stosh feels so happy because he can spend time with his dad because he can’t really spend time with his dad since his mom and dad are divoriced, so this is a good time to go to a baseball game with his dad. I the book, Stosh will also meet other big legends on the New York base ball team in the nineteen thirtys and forties. When they were in New York Stosh and his dad go to a bank, but his dad forgot they were in the times of the depresion so the bank would not let them in because they did not want to go bankrupt. When it was lunch time Stosh, his dad, and Babe went to a resterant to get lunch. They went to the back becuase they were going to drink beer and  beer was oulawed back then. When they were in the back room, Babe passed out and threw up from eating too much and he almost missed the train. I really liked this book because I wanted to read about the great Babe Ruth and this book describes him well. I would recommed this book to anyone who likes sports books and is a fan of the great Babe Ruth.
