Hi my names Julia and this is my blog about a FANTASTIC book called: Sand Dollar Summer! This book is about a 12 year old girl named Lise, along with her little brother Free. Free doesn’t talk at all so they just don’t bother trying to teach him until he learns it on his own. They have a wonderful self reliant mother named Annalise LaMer. She is the one who runs the whole house after the divorce….. Anyways, one day Lise wanted a pepperoni pizza. So her mom went out to the store before she picked up Free and Lise from school. When nobody got there, their neighbor Penny came instead of mom. she told them: “Your mom told me to come get you guys and bring you home, but she sounded like she was in a tremundus anount of pain..” So they all went home and waited for mom who didn’t come. Then there was a knock on the door. Penny got it, it was a police officer. She stepped outside and closed the door. Free and Lise were scared to death! Penny came back in tears. Penny broke the news to the two that their mother was in a terrible car accident. Free and Lise were in shock. They were scared and nervous for their mother’s safety. So they wanted to visit her. They called a cab and climbed out their windows. They waited untilthe cab got there, when he did, he was a little worried of why they didnt have a parent. When they got to the hospital Lise gave the driver some money and they ran in. They asked fo Annalise LaMer. The nurse said children were not aloud in ER rooms. But they begged her just to see her for a little bit. She took them to a man who told them to sit and wait until he called them in. So he gave them sofe food and went off. Finally he called them in. Their mother’s face was swelled up and purple! She had two casts on her arm, and leg and had a few ribs broken. The two were in shock. So they put their hands on hers and she squeezed back. A tear fell down Annalise’s face. Then they had to leave but they cound come back tomorrow morning.  So they left. Only to find Penny and their cab driver standing there. Penny was calm and took them home. After that they had food and did homework together. When their mom finally came home. She had a wheel chair. She said that they were going on a vacation to Fiddle Beach in Main. Free and Lise thought she was out of her mind. But they went anyways. When they got there, they got to their cabin right near the beach shore. They went outside to play when they met two people named Arthur and Beth. Beth had a mental issue. They played all day thenArthur and Beth had to go home. So Lise and Free went inside too. Later in the story (skipping some parts because they arent interesting!) They meet somebody named Michael. Who is the son of a fisherman. He loves playing the saxiphone. So we all danced along Me Free Mom, Gray (cab driver) and another guy who is a friend of Michael’s Ben. We had so much fun that night. Later that night was a terrible flood! Ben’s house was taken under and Lise had no idea where Free and Mom were! Her dog Babe helped her to try to get to safety. Then michael came and saved Lise. But they couldnt find Babe so they had to leave him.Then at the end of the story they found Babe, Free and mom were ok, Michael was fixed, Ben was ok too, and Lise realized that she was no longer scared of the ocean, because the ocean is part of life. Her mother gets better and walks on the beach. Lise just watches her. Others  stare at her because they think shes mumbling. but Lise knows…… she is singing. That is the sad yet life changing story: Sand Dollar Summer.

The story “A Stranger Came Ashore“  is a very cool novel, and is a suspenseful read! It is by Mollie Hunter, so clearly she knows suspense. So this book has a very neat family named the Shetlanders. They have a daughter named Elspeth, and a son named Robbie. They have a grandpa named Old Da. Also (of course) a father and mother. So they are doing their regular cooking, and cleaning, and talking one day, when a storm comes around! It went on till night, and then a man stumbles through the door! The Shetlanders all step back in disbelief! They put the man into a bed in the benroom where all bedrooms are. When the man recovers they ask him for his name. He says… “Finn Learson, is my name.” So they ask him about how he got in the ocean like that. He told his story to all the kind Shetlanders. They were amazed he was able to do it. He told the story to all except sweet Elspeth, who isnt in the room. She then walks in, and Finn rises up at the sight of true beauty. She is in shock of hansomness and a stranger being in the home. So a little later in the story, Finn asks Elspeth to marry him. She says that she is kind of in love with someone shes known longer and who has been there for her. That man is, Nikki he is definetely in love with Elspeth. Finn stumbles back in anger. She says, “I would have to decide…”  Later…. Robbie goes to Old Da bedroom, to find all Shetlanders around his bed. Robbie squeezes in to find poor Old Da sick as ever! Old Da tells Robbie alone to not trust Finn Learson, he says ” i may be a great storyteller, but Finn is not ok.” Robbie nods and leaves Old Da to rest in peace. He finds out by mother that Old Da has passed. everyone was sad but they knew he was a brave soul. So with Finn Learson and Elspeth, about to get married Robbie tries to stop the nonsense, and he succeds he gets in a fight with Nikki when he found out Robbie knew he was a Selkie. A selkie is a old sould inside a cursed seal in the form of a man out of water. He turns old. Nikki wins the battle, and Finn shouts “I will return Elspeth!!” she says no. She thanks Robbie for all hes done for her and the Shetlander family, goes back to being peaceful, and Elspeth marries Nikki. That is the end of  “A Stranger Came Ashore.” (the book review) This book is an awesome read you should read it too!

This story The Boy At The End Of The World by Greg van Eekhout, is very interesting! It is about a boy named Fisher who is born on a world which is being terrorized by machines sent by the great Ark but not the only………. Fisher is born and steps out of his pod into this trecherous world, he tries to find 1 living human being but does not succeed. He meets a robot who is so far un named so Fisher gives him a name Click! (because he clicks a lot!) Click is a robot sent from his world to protect Fisher the last human being on earth so they think. Fisher goes on many adventures like he knows tons of fishing stuff so he fetches traps to catch fish and crayfish too!

Fisher is traveling one day and he sees a mammoth, he wants to kill it but click says it will help him find……… THE SECOND ARK!!!! which was discovered in a cave with tons of writing on it! He named the mammoth protein because he has a lot of it in him! so Click, Protein, and him built a raft to get across a river to get closer to the 2nd Ark.(where humans could be!) Then Click is captured in the night by other mechanical robots, so Fisher has to go look for him with protein. They find him rescue him by protein’s AMAZING speed!! They hide in mud then continue their journey. In the end of the story, Fisher, Click, and Protein met someone named Zapper he helped them find the Ark, when they found the Ark they finally repopulated their city.

 This book is called Mallory’s guide to Boys, Brothers, Dads, and Dogs. It is by Laurie Friedman. It is about a girl named Mallory, who likes this boy in the 7th grade named JT. He already has a girlfriend named Bailey though, so Mallory wants to find a way to get JT to fall for her and not Bailey ….

  So Mallory does her little plans to get JT to fall for her. The first one didn’t go so well.  Lets just say there was a mess for the janitor.  The second one just caused her to get lost and then to be found by her parents.

  At her school, Mallory was too focused on JT that she failed her math test!  That is when it went too far. So Mallory’s teacher, Mr.Knight, had a conference with her mom and dad. She was grounded for a while in her room doing math with her cat, cheeseburger, and her brother’s dog. She definitely learned her lesson.

  After the conference Mallory realized she wasn’t in love with JT.  She didn’t even know him. Her brother was right JT was too old for her and she didn’t even like him anymore! So Mallory learned that you don’t like a boy for just his looks, but also for who he is.
