In Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” the poem is trying to imply that she will rise. Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson on April 4, 1928. She grew up in Arkansas. She did a lot of thing in her life time . She was a author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer, and civil rights activist.
In the poem she uses a lot of poetic language and imagery. I can tell because she uses a lot of descriptive words. It makes a image in my head when I read it. She also uses lots of metaphors. An example of a metaphor is when she said that she is a black ocean.
How does the poem flow? It uses repetition to rhyme. She repeats the phrase Still I Rise. The poem doesn’t alert all five senses to me because I can only visualize the image. By repeating the same phrase you an feel her confidence.
The poem makes me have mixed emotions. The most I feel is proud because she is so confident and strong. Yes the poem creates a emotion for African Americans for many reasons. The main one probably is thankfulness because we don’t have slavery anymore.

Tony Porters speech clearly explains what it takes to be a women and the meaning of it so one cant be controlling of the other.
A mans role in society is to mainly be in charge of things to provide for the needs of the women and the wife.
A women roles in society is to take care of the children, keep the house clean, and to take care of herself in apperence.
