In Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” the poem is saying that no matter what people say about her she will not be defeated and that she will “rise.” and still have a smile on her face.

Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson on April 4, 1928. She grew up in Arkansas. She has had many roles in her life: author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer, and civil rights activist.

Maya Angelou uses Repetition and Hyperbole to show the reader that she can overcome her problems and walk with her head held high no matter what the world may think about her she is better than that.  She uses words that tell you that she had a hard life when she says, “

Did you want to see me broken/ Bowed head and lowered eyes” I can see someone looking at her wanting her to feel bad about herself and she is still happy.

Angelou’s poem is telling people that when people try to put you down .To just overcome the challenges that she may have went throw. “Leaving behind nights of terror and fear”

When she asks rhetorical questions she is trying to get the reader to get the reader more interested in the poem. To show how she had to overcome lots of thing in her life. and still came out on top.

Angelou use Imagery and Metaphor I to show imagery she says thing that relate to the senses. She is trying to get the reader to uses there senses to get in the poem.  She uses Metaphor “That I dance like I’ve got that I dance like I’ve got diamonds”. To show how that she carry herself like she is worth more than diamonds. And she carry herself like she is better than everybody.

This poem has is a testament to Angelous’s fight against the people who try to bring her down even throw  tried to hold her down.  It is very inspiring because I can see myself in her in may ways the struggle andand how she over comes everything .  Although I did not come from the same humble beginnings as she did I can still can  relate.  To me this poem is dedicated to everyone and anyone who has had to face the disapproval of others and rise above it.
