The Hunger Games is a first person fiction book about a girl named Katniss Everdeen. The book takes place in the future in North America, but now it is called Panem. There are now 12 districts and the Capital rules over all of them. 74 years ago the 13th district had an uprising so the Capital destroyed it.  In order to keep the other 12 districts from trying to revolt the came up with the Hunger Games. This is where they select one boy and one girl from every district to fight to the death in an arena that they have designed. The tributes are all from the ages of 12 to 18. The capital views this as entertainment, they all watch it on T.V. Katniss volunteers in order to save her younger sister Prim. The boy who was chosen from their district, Peeta,  had once helped Katniss and she does not want to kill him. The book follows Katniss through the arena.  This is book one in the series and there are three books. It is a quick read and it is very addicting. I would definitely recommend it.

Thirteen Reasons Why is a first-person book about a teenager named Clay and he received a set of tapes in the mail. When he begins listening to them he realizes that they were made by a girl who went to his school and she recently killed herself. Clay cannot imagine why he is on theses tapes. He was never mean to Hannah, in fact he liked her and could have even loved her if she gave him the chance. Hannah made the tapes to tell the 13 people who added to her decision to kill herself how they all connected. She wanted all of them to realize that there are consequences to their actions. She wanted them to learn that the things they did made her want to kill herself. She was hoping that they might learn from this. This book follows Clay as he is listening to the tapes. Jay Asher uses a lot of flashbacks of Clay trying to remember things Hannah talks about. This book is a good read and really keeps you interested because you want to find out why Clay is on the list.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story was written by Ned Vizzini. It is a first person fiction book. This book is about a 15 year-old boy named Craig Gilner who was thinking about committing suicide so he was checked into a metal hospital. This book tells about his stay in the hospital, and how he learned that life is worth living. Even though it is a book about depression, it is very uplifting. Craig was accepted into a prestigous high school, he was obsessed with his education so that he could have a good life,  and he was in love with his best friends girls friend. These things made him depressed and caused his suicidal thoughts.  While in the hospital, Craig meets people who change his life. He meets Bobby a guy who seems to know his way around and Craig can’t figure out why Bobby is there. Craig also meets a quiet girl named Noelle with cuts on her face who helps to change his out look on life. Vizzini uses many different similes and metaphors to describe how Craig is feeling.
