I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, by Tucker Max is written in the first person point of view. This novel is a collection of short stories often focusing on women and drinking in excess. Tucker Max uses crude and offensive humor to entertain the reader. Each chapter is a different story which outlines how his immature actions put himself into situations that he sometimes would rather not be in.  Most of his stories start out innocent, drinking with a group of friends at Duke University where he attended. It isn’t until he becomes extremely inebriated that the “hilarity ensues.” Every story ends in Max doing something very offensive. Whether it is him taking advantage of one or multiple women, puking on people, or making lude however hilarious comments towards another group of people. During this time in his life, it is evident that Max was convinced he is better than everyone else. This is proven through the way he shows no mercy when making fun of his victims. Each chapter contains it’s own hilarious climax, none leaving me disappointed. I would recommend this book to guys who love a good laugh, and who are not easily offended.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay is a novel written in the first person point of view. It includes the main character, Dexter along with many other characters who come and go throughout the book. It is a story about how Dexter lives to lives. By day, he is a forensic blood spatter analysis for the Miami-Dade Police Department, however by night, Dexter is a serial killer who only targets the criminals who he believes had escaped the law. The author was extremely creative when writing this book, thus making it a great read. Lindsay used suspense and shock to keep me reading. Since this book is part of a series, there was no real climax, however the rising action was very entertaining. I would recommend this to book to anyone who like reading dark, suspenseful crime novels.

The novel The Hunt For The Red October takes place during the cold war era. It is about a Soviet submarine commander who, along with his comrades is attempting to defect to the United States. It is told in multiple points of view from Ramius, the leader of the ”Red October” and Jack Ryan, an American C.I.A worker who is investigating the newly launched submarine. This book takes you through how the United States was trying to find the Soviets, while not knowing that the submarine was trying to be spotted of the east coast in the attempt to leave their country. It parallels history and is based off of fact from the cold war. Each one of the Soviet characters were high raking party members who learned to hate the country due to the harsh treatment of its people and the inability to be promoted. They learn that defecting to the United States would give them the chance to move up and be more successful in their given fields.
