Thanksgiving List

By Emma 5-24-12

My family,

My dog,

Who make me laugh.

My school,

My town

That keeps me safe.

The sunshine

Summer sunsets,

Makes me happy beyond words,

Snow,

White snow,

Falling in my mitten,

Cooling me off

Warming me up,

Reminding me of home.

Stars,

Shining in the night,

Make me feel protected,

From the world,

And beyond,

Inside and out.

For fabrics,

That line the walls,

As I take hours to choose the prefect ones,

To create something beautiful,

That I can keep forever.

For a smile,

On my mothers face,

That always cheers me up,

For a laugh,

Coming from my dad,

at the end of a long day.

For the feeling of being on top of the world,

From the things that make me happy.

I really like this video because I was playing with the color sensor today and I thought that it was really cool. I learned that the robot can memorize patterns and colors and then use them again. I think that this would be a really cool kind of thing that we can try. Last, I like that we can do this type of thing using not just the color sensor like we can build shapes with the touch sensor. I am really excited to learn more about this!

Dear family,

I do not think that the war between the colonists and us can be avoided because of many reasons. They are very mad at us because we have attacked and killed many of them and now they are probably never going to trust us ever again. also they killed many of us and that makes it even more of a bad war because even after that we are still out to kill each other. I wish that I could say I want it to end but not right now. We can only hope that it ends sometime. I am very sorry for the news. I can’t wait to see you again!

Best wishes

Jeremy Lister

DPC

  1. The overall theme to our project is helping the watershed be a better place. We are trying to make people aware of how they are polluting the river. We do this by testing samples, making graphs, creating web pages, and doing much, much more to make people aware. We are also getting a nice learning experience from the project by learning about the watershed and trying to get the best science lesson possible. The goal is to educate other people about the damage that they are doing to the watershed and make them notice that every little bit counts. Pure research has helped because we need all of the data that we collected to actually figure out how bad this problem is so that when we do go to  educate the other people we will have graphs and such to prove and tell them exact answers so that they will try harder to keep the river clean.

  1. This year with DPC I have had a very nice experience. I really like that with this project we can see a difference as we go on so that really pushes me to keep doing well until we solve our problem. I like doing all of the water testing because it is fun and you are learning something at the same time. I have had a wonderful time with this project and I can’t wait to see the overall turnout. Some new things that I have learned about my project include things like how polluted the water is that’s coming out of the storm drain, how much it counts for even just a little bit of oil, soap and other contaminates to run into a catch basin because that will end up in the river and because of this (and many, many other problems too) our river is getting worse and worse so we want to help make it a better place again. I am participating by alerting other people form the town of the problem that we have uncovered and even though we are causing a lot of problems we have a really great and interesting question and we really want and need an answer before someone gets in some really big trouble for having their waist being tied into the storm water system. I am also helping other classmates that might need the data that we have found because my group did some tests on samples from the vernal pool and we gave that data to the group that is studying that and saved them an extra step but we also got to use that data at the same time so that was a useful time because we were really working together.

  1. The most memorable experience I have had so far is going down to the river for the first time to get samples when it was pouring rain. We went outside and there was snow and ice and we were expecting only a few drops of water to be coming out of the storm drain but we got there and found a huge pool with water rushing out of the pipe and a fast moving stream of runoff leading into the river. We were all cold and soaking wet while taking the samples but when we got inside the things that we found were definitely worth the trip. My understanding of our goal has increased during this time when we first saw the storm drain with water flowing out of it because none of us had ever been down there in a rain storm and we were just expecting a few drops to be coming out but there was a huge puddle of polluted water and a fast-flowing stream leading into the river. We were all very excited and we took many water and soil samples to take back to the classroom and do our first tests.

  1. The major accomplishments of the project so far for me have been finding out that there was a problem with our storm drain and I hope that for the next one I can later say that we found out what the problem exactly was. I think that these are two of the biggest ones because that is what our whole project has turned into. We are talking to many experts, and doing many tests that help us find out the things that we have to find out so that we can get closer and closer to solving our mystery. I really enjoy this project and it is not like a normal science project that only some kids like it is a very big thing that almost everyone in the class really enjoys.

  1. Our class is making a DIFFERENCE by warning people about what they are doing in many ways. I know that surveys were sent out, important people have been emailed, graphs have been made, and we took multiple field trips so far and we are certainly making a DIFFERENCE in our community. I will keep the goals of this project alive by educating the kids in my school by doing the assembly and telling them how important it is to keep the river clean. I will also take what I have learned doing this project and remember it for as long as I can so that the river will get clean and stay that way. Our project is important because the river really needs help and we are doing the best that we can to save it.

  1. I think that I helped made a DIFERINCE by finding out things from tests like how the ecofriendly road salt is more polluting than normal road salt, and that sliding down the hill pollutes the water because of all the pollutants on peoples boots. I am now also part of a big issue with the town and we are making a big difference in other people’s lives by teaching them and making them become someone that really cares.

  1. I will keep the goals of this project alive by educating the kids in my school by doing the assembly and telling them how important it is to keep the river clean. We were also thinking about using the Thoreau cabin as a study place for younger kids as they travel through school.
