May Love be in War

By Maiya Bowen

In 1759 a little girl named Annie was born. She had blue eyes, blonde hair, and whenever she saw a book or her brothers school she would go nuts. So her parents knew she loved school and books. She knew her parents were rich but she didn’t know how rich until one day when her farther came back with multiple vegetables and fruits, even a real chicken. “Papa, Papa!” 7 year old Annie said, “where’d you get them chickens!” “Well sweetie you know we’re rich, so I bought us some eggs and meat.” said  Papa.

The Lovick’s were very rich people. Almost the richest in the people in Concord. And it wasn’t easy to be rich during this kind of time. See Mr. Lovick had to travel some much just to get enough money to pay for food. But ever since the passing of Mr. Lovick’s farther they got all of the money that he owned.

And they got his mansion that was in England. When Annie turned 10 she would go out and and throw knifes at trees but not at animals. Luckily she wasn’t alone. She was with her friend Patience. Patience and Annie were different in some ways. Like Annie was a bit more adventurous and was a  tom-boy, and Patience was a girly girl. Patience had OK grades, Annie had great grades. But both were very brave. But one big thing that wasn’t very good was Patience’s family were loyalists. And Annie’s family are patriots. And soon that would become a problem. But they were both best friends. Patience Hart had really, really long hair, green eyes, long eye-lashes, freckles, brown hair, red lips, she loves headbands, loves painting, she’s helpful, and she had a boyfriend names Jay Adams. Jay had blonde hair, blue eyes, and he was 12. “Why you hurting all these trees.” Patience and Jay said. “I need fire wood. Don’t I?” Annie said. “Go buy some instead of killing the trees.” Jay said, “And maybe buy some for us while you’re at it. You don’t want me to freeze.” “Why? Just because I’m rich doesn’t mean I can buy everything for you people.

Annie wasn’t very happy because of the way they have been treating her. Ever since Patience got Jay she had gotten snobby and rude to Annie, but they were still best friends. 7 years later when Annie and Patience were 17 and Jay was 19 everything went  down hill from there. See that’s when Annie’s brothers and farther had just signed up to be Minutemen and Patience’s farther had just signed up to be a Regular. Jay’s farther and brother didn’t want to fight in the war but Patience some how made Jay fight in the war. Now Annie was furious but since Jay was Patience’s boyfriend she had no control over it. “ Why do you want your boy friend to get killed”? screamed Annie. “ It is none of your business Ms. Nosy” said Patience. “ You are my best friend in all of Concord and you call me nosy, I’m not the one who hates their boyfriend.” Annie said fuming with anger. “ Don’t get so angry Annie, he won’t get killed.”

Before Patience could say another word Annie slapped her. “ Why did you do that you idiot?” said Patience in a harsh voice. “ If you learned you lesson you will take you boy friend out of the war before he kills”.

But before Annie or Patience could say another word they heard a wagon pulling up to Annie’s house. “What do you think that is”? asked Annie in a questioning voice. “I don’t know, maybe a relative is coming over” said Patience still rubbing her cheek from the slap. “Come on lets check it out, I really hope it’s not my grandmother, I can’t stand her and her giant dresses and hats and the ancient, it drives me crazy” said Annie.

So the two girls walked up to the house and opened the door. To their surprise it was Annie’s grandfather. “Hello ladies, how are you today” said Annie grandfather “Grandpa yelled Annie”.

Right when she said that Annie brothers and Annie raced into his arms. But since Patience knew why he was here she stayed as faraway from him as possible. See her father told her never to hang around people that plan on fighting in the war as patriots. So that meant that she shouldn’t be around Annie’s family or even Annie but she couldn’t stay away from Annie they had been best friends and she didn’t want to loose her friend again.

Dear Phebe my

wonderful wife,

I have gone
through some tough times here in Concord. First my best friend Ebenezer is
killed in a gun fight with the Regulars and then I find out that the Red Coats
have found out about you stash of useful weapons. I know I haven’t spoken to
you ever since you grand farther died in the Boston Massacre but there is a
good reason. See ever since the stamp act was placed all paper goods are being
under monitor and we have to pay to send things.  But since I didn’t want to have to send more
than 1 letter I decided to just answer your question. Yes the war could have
been avoided. See if those Regulars didn’t fire than neither side would lose
men. But maybe next time we need to be more aware of spies so Red Coats can’t
find out if we are holding weapons. Well I better head to bed or I won’t have
enough energy if needed to fight those Regulars again. Hopefully they will
surrender before more people get killed. And who knows maybe they will go back
home and leave us colonists alone. Wish you were here with me enjoying the good
times. Say hi to everyone for me. Bye!

Sincerely,

James Barrett

I selected that CML because that was my best ever out of all of them. I have gotten 0 out of 6 two times. And once I got the 5 out of 6 I was so proud of my self because I knew I knew all of those things. Except for that one question. I think this shows that once I study really hard (which I did) and I got the score that I wanted.

Gears are special wheels that help move things

Meshing- when wheels fit between other teeth on other wheels

Spur gears- flat  and round

One spur gear can turn several other gears- a gear train

If the gears are different sizes they go different speeds

Worm gear- a gear that looks like a screw

When a worm gear turns it makes a spur gear go slow

On cuckoo clocks gears are powered by falling weights

Extra gears turn the parts that make the cuckoo pop out

Some mountain bikes have 28 gears

Bevel gears- gears on a hand drill with sloping teeth

Bevel gears allow you to turn the handle in one direction

I selected this piece because it shows that I can find a lot of information on something that isn’t as easy to find information on like an inclined plane or wedge. It shows that I will read through long paragraphs and not just guess about everything and go on my own thinking. Even though it is so hard not to.

As I sit and wait for the water to come on my dry face I wonder why I don’t just get up and leave this place, I mean I sit here every day and do the same thing almost 24/7. But I know that my mother told me if you move you will get lost out in the bog river cause you might be walking then this giant wave will come and sweep you all the way out to the ocean. Just like what happened to great, great, great, great, great grandmother. One minute she is just walking over to her friend next minute she’s out in the ocean trying to make friends. So I just sit here and enjoy every single wave on my face. Oh how rude I’m being, I should have introduced myself by now. My name is Rocky the Rock. But to some of my friends it’s Rock-stir or Rock-star. Get it rock- STAR. Ha, ha, ha get it? No, no one well this is one tough crowd. Well some people probably got it. Any way I’m still being rude, I didn’t let you people introduce yourselves. Well go ahead introduce yourselves. My mother says first you introduce yourself then wait to let them introduce themselves or you will scare them off and they will not come back and you will be lonely. And she doesn’t want that on bit today or tomorrow. Most people I meet never want to introduce themselves so I have to talk to someone that won’t even talk to me. I bet no one has to go through what I go through. Not even my older brother Richard. He plans on being a rich boy just because his name is Richard. So do you want to come into my house we had water cream and blocks. Please say yes. Because whenever I walk into the house with no friend (which is every day) my mother always ask me why I’m playing hard to get when really it is you people that are playing hard to get, I mean why don’t you people want to hang out with an awesome rock like? I fun, funny, creative, happy, loves the beach (I bet you people love the beach also) and more. I mean yes my brother Richard is cute and hot and all that stuff but I can be cute and cuddly and he can’t even cuddle with his own mother. I’m just saying, why can’t rocks like me get everything rocks like Richard get. I mean he gets the cute, shiny, and skinny rocks and I get the rocks total opposite of them. He gets class favorite, I get class quite. He gets 6 scoops of water cream, I get only 1. And boy is that stuff good. I like mine with some cold fudge in the middle and on the top. Oh and don’t get me started on play dates. He gets to have both boys and girls over, I only get to have boys over. It’s so unfair. He gets everything he wants and I get everything I really don’t want. But my dad once told me that if you are willing to fight for it then you should work for it. I’m so sorry. I have just been talking and talking well I guess you did walk away. Well I think you should go because this isn’t going to work out between us. I liked the old way of having people getting up and walking away. So bye!

I selected this piece because I was not only funny but I was informative to the readers. And it turns an ordinary rock into a star. Get it. See I said rock-STAR and I turned the rock into a star. Well you have to read it to get it. It shows that I will sit down and write a 592 word story with no problem. And Mrs. Erickson helped me do that.

I selected this drawing because it shows not only how much I love sparkles but how much I will sit down and just start drawing what might happen in the future. Maybe I will be the next Rube Goldberg in girl form. I learned so much from what Rube and what Rube did.

I selected this piece because it shows how much I will pay attention and not just wonder around and skip important information that will help me letter. I learned that almost all of the colonies needed both corn and tobacco.
