Robotics Movie

I chose thins video because I think it would be really cool to see a robot reassemble or redo something like a Rubik’s Cube. I found out that the robot has a really good light/color sensor. In class we could be programing it wrong so the robot isn’t working. I wonder if it is hard for the robot to do that? I could never complete a Rubik’s Cube with my hands so I was so amazed to a robot do it. Plus I think designing that would be fun because there are so many parts, but it also would be hard to program the sensors and the robot to that stuff.

Dear My Direst Friends,

I am writing back to you to answer your question and tell you that I am all right. You question was “can the war between the colonists and the war be avoided”. I think the colonists will not go down without a fight because they are very mad at their mother country because we made taxes.  I still can’t believe they are fighting against us, the ones witch are protecting them. But I think some of our men want us to still fight because they want to punish them from dumping all that tea into the ocean and refusing to pay taxes that the king told us to put out to the colonists.  Personally I don’t want this to end without a clear winner, but if they win I wish I had said not to have a clear victor. And now I would like to say that I believe there will defiantly more war because we only had one battle but I think we are prepared to have a lot more in the future.

Your Friend,

John Barker

Types of animals rely on the vernal pool

By Livy Poulin

One item some animals most need on their shopping list is a vernal pool. So many animals rely on the vernal pool because it isn’t flowing like a river; it’s just a small area. It is a good place to lay eggs, and it is a great habitat for smaller animals. What animals live in/at a vernal pool? Why is a vernal pool so important to animals? How do they find food? And. If they are endangered, threatened, or a popular species?

To get the information for my topic I researched a lot about the animals that live at a vernal pool. Here is a list of the animals that rely on vernal pools; Fairy Shrimp, some types of turtles, frogs, and some salamanders. I also found out some interesting things. Some of the interesting things are that fairy shrimp only live in vernal pools, the endangered species the Blue-spotted Salamanders live in vernal pools.

Last year my class and I head-started two animals that rely on a vernal pool. Those animals the Blanding’s Turtle species and Spadefoot Toad species. We learned that the Blanding’s Turtles and Eastern Spadefoot Toads are either threatened in a state or endangered. We helped them by having them in our classroom and feeding them. This helps because when they get released in the wild they will have more protection because they will be bigger and they will know what food to eat because at the end of the year we gave them some food that will be in the place they will be living when we release them. They both use vernal pools by living and laying eggs near or in vernal pools. The turtles can also hibernate in the vernal pool. If there weren’t any vernal pools in this world than certain types of species wouldn’t be alive. On March 5, 2012 we were at Cousins Field Vernal Pool and in the water we found Fingernail Clams. Only some types of fingernail Clams live in vernal pools. This is very helpful because that means we are one step closer to certifying Cousins Field Vernal Pool.

An investigation is one of the only ways to find an answer to a question. This because if you don’t investigate where will you get the information to answer the questions.  I did a few investigations about the animals that live in vernal pools. After doing all my investigations I realized that there are probably about 100 animals that rely on a vernal pool.

My group is the Warner’s Pond Vernal Pool. Our environmental goal is to certify the vernal pool so that it and the animals that live there are protected. And we are going to help pull invasive species so people can swim in Warner’s Pond again. My understanding of our goal has increased because of my researched and by making scratches.

My experience so far has been pretty good. I t I am participating by researching and by making the portfolio pages with another person in my group. . A memorable experience I had during this project was going to Warner’s Pond to learn a little bit more about its history and why it is important to get rid of the invasive species. My research and discussion has helped me understand our goal better because I have learned more about Warner’s Pond and the vernal pool.

Three major accomplishments my group has made are; finding out about the invasive species at Warner’s Pond, find out if the vernal pool is certifiable, and we have made lots of graphs about Warner’s Pond and the vernal pool.

My classes project has made a difference by warning people in our watershed community about our problem.  This is important because we want to keep our watershed clean and safe.

Personally I thinks I have made a difference by making slides about how we can help pull some of invasive species out of Warner’s Pond, and information about the pond.

I will keep this project going in our school, community, and life by informing people about this problem. And I hope people try to help save their watershed.
