The Arab Spring was a calamity that affected everyone in the Middle East but some more than others. The economic crisis had been going on in the area for years before. Though the severity of the situation became much higher when the only way to make profit in the area was oil. The competition in the area for these jobs has become an extreme battle just to stay employed. The influences from the people and the government are continuing to affect everything in the Middle East.
There were many protests during this time against all governments. The government in Tunisia had it harder than most when Ben Ai was president. Before he had resigned there had been riots all over the country. With Egypt it was a similar circumstance with Hosni Mubarak. Eventually he had also resigned from president before the riots had started coming in his country. The Arab Spring was a terrible event that happened in the Middle East and made it hard to live in the area.
The war has ended and everything in front of me has changed before my eyes in these few months. What was once a battlefield, now looks like a home. The walls of buildings are rebuilt and the new stores placed all over. I see the gardens that grocers use. The river that flows straight through the reforming city was flowing down stream until i could no longer see it. The cars flew by me so fast I could barely see the license plates but there was little to no traffic as far as i could see.
I chose this picture as the most important to culture because I think it demonstrates the importance of language in our world. It shows just a portion of the verbal languages in our world, so imagine if none of these existed. There would be billions of people with no way to communicate at all. These simple ways of saying hi to someone are so different in fact, that some of these characters don’t even exist in the other languages such as 你好 which is hi in Mandarin Chinese. This is so incredibly different from English that there is no way to figure out that means hi without using an outside source. This just shows that language is the biggest factor in differentiating cultures.
