I read the book, Halfway to the Sky, by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.  The story takes place in the springtime in the Appalachian Mountains.  This is a story about a young girl’s life and how she deals with her parent’s divorce, her dad’s new wife, and her brother dying.

The main character of the story is Dani Brown. Dani is a very brave and determined girl.  She wants to hike the entire Appalachian  Mountains.  Dani wants to take this trip because she is not happy at home.  Her brother has just died and her father left and married a mean step mother.    The Appalachian Mountains is where her parents fell in love and she is hoping that she can get them to fall in love again.

The story begins with Dani running away from home. She packs her book bag and gets on a Greyhound to get to the beginningof her hike.  On her first day of the hike Dani she meets a boy that she names Beagle.  He hikes with her the first day and buys her dinner.  That night Dani wakes up with a flashlight in her face to see her mom has found her.

Dani convinces her mom to continue the hike with her.  Her mom told her that she was only going to hike with her for a week and then they were going home.  After that week, Dani and her mom head home to repack because Dani has talked her mom into hiking with her for two months.  During these two months Dani and her mom become friends again.  Dani talks with her mom about how she has felt after Springer, her brother, died.  They also talk about how Dani wants her mom and dad to get back together, but her mom tells her that it won’t happen.

In the end, Dani goes home with her mom.  They decided that it is best that they sell their house and move into a cabin to get away from all of the sad memories.  She is working on liking her step mom because they now have a little brother.

 I would recommend this book because I like the adventure in it.  I also liked how Dani and her mom slowly bonded each day climbing the Appalachian Mountains.  I learned that life isn’t fair because during the book Dani would get mad at her mom because she wouldn’t finish the trail, her mom and dad divorced, and her brother died. Dani learns to handle all of these things with the help of her mom.

I have been reading the Freedom Stone I have just started the book.  So far the book has been about a slave girl and she is so worried about being sold.  so she goes to her friends house to get her mind off of the slave auction.  I think it is a very good book and I can’t wait to keep reading.

This book makes me think of the movie time machine with the time travel

Also known as Harper is about a girl who family dosn’t have much money. In the beginning Harper,mom and her brother get kicked out of their house because her family dosn’t have enough money to pay their bills. So they go to this motel and they a girl named Lorianne and a boy named Randall. I love this book I think you should read it.

The wish  is about a girl named Wilma. One day Wilma was taking a train to school and gives a old lady her seat on the train. Because of her kindness to the old lady, the old lady gave her one wish. She started to think about her life before the wish was given to her.
