Everyone who has returned is very joyful in spirits. The people at home are home excited to hear about our travels. I feel dreadfully sorry for those who did not survive. To be home in Seville feels so good!
We are finally headed for Spain. Two months ago, we ran low on food and supplies. We stopped in Hispaniola to restock and rest. I am so excited to go home!
How strange! These people have such unusual ways of doing things! I put these thoughts out of my mind so we could have a decent dinner. I went to sleep in an area with a lot of trees. A loud noise woke me up! I quickly got up. I was amazed at what I saw. My men were riding horses and fighting those srange people.( Later, I learned that they had attacked us.) I put on some armor and went to fight. We easily overtook them. The ones that lived became our slaves.
Ahoy! I rushed out of my cabin to see what the commotion was all about. I nearly fainted at the sight before me. Land!!! Luckily, I regained my balance. Soon after, my men and I were getting off the ship. I cupped my hands over my mouth and yelled, ” Venezuala.”
The Lord has blessed me! I got a letter from King Ferdinand of Spain. He asked me to pilot one of four ships going to Hispaniola. I sent a letter to the King saying that I would gladly do so.
