The Cons of Homeschooling
By Michael Hua
Children should not be homeschooled. First, it cuts them off from the real world. Second, a parent must be with them 24/7 as a teacher and a parent. Third, a public school offers a gym, music room, art room, and library. A homeschooled child would miss out on all of these things.
The homeschooled child will be cut off from the real world. The homeschooled child will often have no friends and go on fewer fieldtrips. Also, they might lose their old friends because they don’t see them during the school day. They might not work that well in groups because they haven’t had a chance to practice working in groups.
If the parent is teaching the child they will have to be with them 24/7 and some parents don’t like being with their child. Also, the parent may not be as strict because they are teaching their own child and the child might not obey the parents’ command because the teacher is his/her mother/father. The child will not see other people’s points of view because they don’t see or interact with many other people which makes their point of view narrower.
A public school contains more resources than a house and often includes a gym, music room, art room, and library. These are needed to make a child well-rounded. A well-rounded child does better in varied subjects and in life after school. They also have a better chance of getting a good job. Plus, the school taxes the parents pay help fund all of those resources and the child isn’t even using those resources.
A public school is a better choice than being homeschooled because it has other children, more resources, and better teachers. These things help children to socialize and listen. These are reasons why every child should go to a public school.
