Thanks for sharing this message, Raegan. There must be an agency that oversees puppy stores to be sure they are kept to standards. It’s always an interesting discussion among dog-owners, too. It got me thinking about whether stores should even be allowed to sell dogs. On a brief search, I found some very interesting information here: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/petstor.html

Could there be a place in the world for reputable pet stores that sell puppies or should it be illegal to sell dogs through stores? What are your thoughts?

I am so sorry that you had to experience this but I am glad you took the opportunity to share this experience. I am also glad that you took the time to research puppy mills and posted the links so others can learn about this very important topic. My daughter volunteers for an animal shelter every week and I hear her stories of heartbreak as well. Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Raegan,
As I write this to you, our dog, Zorro, a rescued and retired greyhound, keeps pushing his nose under my arm to get it off the computer so that he can be pet. Dogs!

I agree with you. Puppies, or kittens, or any other animal sold in pet stores aren’t projects. They all have the right to live happily in a loving home.

Animal lovers are a passionate breed of people, and I would find it hard to imagine that anyone would disagree with what you’re saying. Go to the pound, call a rescue agency, save a pet’s life. You don’t have to go a ‘puppy store’ to find the dog that you’ve always wanted.

Thanks for sharing this with us. All of us animal lovers appreciate it!

    Raegan,
I couldn’t agree with you more! It is always heartbreaking to see animals in need of a good family of their own. Thank you for taking the time to share this message. My dog and I thank you! :)

    Raegan,
I couldn’t agree with you more about rescuing a dog from the pound. I have owned 2 dogs in my adult lifetime (so far), and both of them were from rescue situations. Chloe, our first dog, was a lab/collie cross. She was the most gentle dog I have ever encountered, and a good “mother” to my two girls when they were young. Tucker, the dog we have now, is a black beagle/lab cross. He is incredibly intelligent! We call him our “pot-bellied bunny cat”. He snorts like a pig when you scritch him behind the ears, he loves to eat lettuce (especially the ribs from romaine lettuce), and he rubs up against you like a cat. Both dogs have certainly made our life, and family, more complete and enjoyable.
Thanks for suggesting that people consider “rescuing” a dog from the pound themselves. They are not always the “problem” dogs people often think them to be.

I live very close to the Hunte Corporation http://www.huntecorp.com/. This is a company that breeds dogs for people to buy. I can’t speak for this or any other dog breeding company, but there is a good argument for these places. Large corporations are easier to visit and inspect than small ones. They often have very knowledgeable people that care for the animals.

I have had many dogs in my life, some have been strays, pound puppies, and even a couple store bought. It is wonderful you care for these animals, so my question is, “What are you going to do about the store you visited?”
