The Black Necked Spitting Cobra

I love snakes, particularly venomous ones. One of my favorite species is the facinating Black-necked spitting cobra. It is well known for it’s lethal venom that can prove fatal to humans and it’s ability to project venom at it’s enemies, as well as the “hood” that it unfolds to scare away predators. It is truly a fasinating reptile.

The venom of the Black-necked spitting cobra(Naja Nigricollis)is the characteristics of  the  may African spitting cobras. It retains elapid neurotoxic properties, and can have many effects on humans. Bite syntoms may include severe external hemorrhaging and tissue necrosis around the bite area.
In addition, as its name suggests, the  N.nigricollis is able to project venom at poential threats. Cobras have a habit of “spitting” poison in between the victims eyes. I believe this is because the venom can irritate skin and eyes.
All cobras are best known for the hoods they unfold when startled. When feeling threatend, it raises its hood, hoping that its opponent will flee.  If this doesn’t work, it attacks.
Even though dangerous the Black-necked spitting cobra is an incredibly intresting creature. What do you think?
