Dear future Mrs. Kolbert students and all my readers, as you may know, the school year is ending and it is time for me to say goodbye. First a note to my readers, thank you so so so so soooo much for being so amazing. You always commented and “supported” all of my work.  Now, to Mrs. Kolbert’s  future students.  You guys will LOVE Mrs. Kolbert! (as long as you are on her good side! heehee!)  Trust me, you will learn so much. Not only about the BORING science and social studies but, about technology. This year I had fun at school! Imagine that! We did things like Video chats with scientists (and other “famous” people), of course kidblog, we made videos and raps about science topics, and SOOOO much more. Good Luck in 4thgrade! it might be hard to get through but I think you can do it! Mrs. Kolbert will help you get through! So, I guess that’s it! Bye!

This is Jess signing off!

So, the funnyness all started on May 7, 2010. I told my friend Julianna to tell everyone it is “National Hamburger Day” today so we could trick everyone into thinking that. When we got into the classroom, we told everyone that and THEY BELIEVED US!!!! Except for my friend Elly. I thought I was going to have to tell her the truth that we were making it up. So, I went on Google in the classroom and typed “National Hamburger Day” in the search bar. I didn’t press search until she said “Well, press the search button and I’ll believe you.” I thought “I guess she’ll just have to find out the truth.” Then I pressed the search button and you would never believe what came up. “National Hamburger Day: May 6, 2010″ So I quickly improvied and said ” Elly, sorry I was a day late, I apologize”. Then I laughed sooooooo hard in my head. I couldn’t believe it was actually the day before!!!!!!!! I thought I just named National Hamburger Day in my head and let alone it was the day before. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that!

Just so you know, this is a TRUE story!

As you all probably know, May 5th was Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of may in Spanish) but you probably don’t know why Mexicans celebrate it. It celebrates the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is usually celebrated in state of Puebla and in the United States.  It is not to be confused with Mexico’s Independence Day which is celebrated on September 16. There’s not much to Cinco de Mayo but, if you want to learn more go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo which is also where I got my infomation.

Hope you enjoyed!

In our class, our teacher has to pick someone to be on our morning news program, W.O.W.L. I believe that I should have the opportunity to do that because:

  • I have been in many shows at a local children’s theater and have learned numerous things about speaking in front of an audience
  • From my experience at Sol Children’s Theater, I have had to memorize monologues for auditions and scripts for shows, with only little time to do so.
  • I am not afraid of cameras because all the shows I’ve been in were filmed
  • In theater, I learned a lot about diction and to speak with a not too low voice but a not too loud voice which I can demonstrate in W.O.W.L
  • I am very flexible if  Ms.Weinwroth needs me at the school at a certain time and I can always get to the school in the morning
  • I listen to directions well and can follow them easily
  • I am not mean (at least I don’t think I am) so there will be no problem with other people on the show
  • I think I have an outgoing personality which would reflect well on W.O.W.L
  • I have always wanted to be a part of  a real TV show- either behind the scenes or on camera- and this could be my first step to achieving my dream of being on one

As you can see I would be the perfect person to chose for W.O.W.L.
