I can’t believe that the school year is almost over. I am happy and sad at the same time. You third graders are about to get a taste of my year. One reason fourth grade is better than third grade is because you feel more independent. You’ll have to learn how to deal with situations on your own. Things will be changing academically and socially. The work is piled on more and more, and you will have a good amount of tests, worksheets, reading, and studying to do throughout the year. Also, teachers expect more out of you than in third grade. But if you give everything a good effort, and listen in class, fourth grade is bound to be easier than how it could be. Things will change socially, like kids becoming bullies overnight. You don’t want to be around bullies, so keep away from them! Basically, from third to fourth grade you grow up and mature a lot. But trust me. If I made it through fourth grade, anyone can!

I know how it feels when your parents don’t believe that you feel sick. It stinks, huh? Luckily, I have some good backup plans right here. Check this out:

1.  Take the thermometer, and breath on it, and grab the tip when your parents aren’t looking. This will increase the temperature when it is time to take the thermometer out.

2.  Rub some of your mom’s red blush on and look really worn out. Also, talk really quietly and in a raspy voice. This works because these are symptoms of fever.

3. Dampen your face, and act tired and confused. Make sure that your head feels convincingly warm, and pretend to fall asleep.

* Remember that if it is the day of a big test your parents know about, DON’T TRY THIS!!!

All of you out there, BEWARE!  Earth will come back for REVENGE!!!!

Since Earth Day is just around the corner, I thought that you just might want this piece of info.

Earth is making a comeback.

Scientists think that in a few billion years or so, the sun’s energy, our only known source of heat and light could run out. If that was to happen, the human race would suffer many consequences. So, I say, be kind to the earth, or ELSE!!! (We could also suffer earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, global warming, land erosion, extinction, etc.)

As you all know, my most recent post, A Cool Competition, got more feedback than I could have imagined. I realized that contests really draw people in, and they are going toward an important goal. In conclusion, I decided that I will hold another competition, also for a great cause. I am hosting a poetry contest, and all contestants will write any type of poem such as haikus, freeforms, limericks, or cinquains about an issue going on in the world such as the Haiti earthquake, and turn it into a poem. You will be supporting an important cause, and educating the public about relevant problems. After receiving eight poems, I will choose my three favorite, and find a winner. This is an exciting activity for a great cause!

Just a few hours ago, I got the opportunity to listen to a seminar done by the great oceanographer Jaques Cousteau’s grandson Philippe Cousteau. He talked mainly about environmental issues, and the horrifying results of overfishing and how vital it is for humans to change. The seminar really helped me open my eyes to how dangerous humans are to the environment, and made me want to work hard to make earth-friendly choices so generations to come can enjoy the magnificent beauty of nature. Therefore, I have decided to hold a contest to reach people who still haven’t realized the very face of the earth is changing in an ugly way. To win this competition, leave a comment containing a persuasive article from three to ten sentences long about what you think is the most important place for humans to change our actions in simple ways. After receiveing six articles, I will narrow my choice down to the top three, then choose the winner. The award is that  you will know that you conviced someone out there that making a small change could do so much.
