What Are Three Foods I Hate?

EWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

EWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

There’s no way I’m eating that! I absolutely hate three foods. Id never put one down my throat.

Guess what? I hate…let me repeat that I HATE broccoli!!! Broccoli has a shameful flavor, it makes me want to throw up. It’s not only that, broccoli practically has hair! Little green things sticking out of the top bothers me. But the biggest thing that bothers me is its green. I don’t really enjoy green vegetables. When I eat broccoli I feel like I’m being posioned, and I don’t really care for food poisoning!

Are you listening? Cause this is very important. Fish, fish, it looks like chicken! Once fish comes into my mouth it comes out just as fast. Just thinking about fish gives me the chill. I can’t stand the smell, the look or even worse the taste! Let me just add one more thing the texture. The textures soft and mushy. Who would want to eat that! One time I went to a restaurant on a peer. On my way to the restroom I saw people cutting open live, LIVE fish! It smelt terrible! After that I decided I will never eat fish again!

You want to know what else is soft and mushy? Shrimp. Shrimp is the answer. I will never put shrimp in my mouth. You know now that I obviously don’t like sea food. Before I eat my food I make sure it doesn’t look completely disgusting, once I look at shrimp I want to run away. It has a TAIL!!!!!!!

Looks, smells, tastes, and textures of some food bother me. Vegetables and sea food are my worst enemies. Don’t get me started on carrots!!

Wow, Katie! You sure did a great job explaining why you hate these foods. I like cooked broccoli but after reading your description (hair?), I’m thinking… not so much! I’ve also been on a pier when they are cutting up raw fish also and I try not to look. Fish is so good for you and can be cooked in so many ways that I don’t want anything to ruin my taste for fish.

So, what foods do you like?

    Katie,

Well, I have to say you need to keep an open mind. All through my younger days, I HATED broccoli. Oddly, I too thought it was hairy or something. When I got to be an adult, I tried it again and it’s now my favorite vegetable. Now, asparagus, on the other hand, still looks and tastes like tree bark.

I have never been a fan of fish. The smell or the taste. Somethings don’t change. I’m ok with shrimp though, so at least I have one thing I can eat when I go to a seafood place with friends! What are you going to eat at a seafood place??

I am curious, like Mrs. Kolbert, what are your favorite foods?? Since you have such a strong dislike for the foods you listed, are there foods that make you want to get equally excited?

Well, Katie, sorry to say, I LOVE all the things that you hate!

Maybe if you put broccoli with some cheese you might like it better! I am with Mrs. Kolbert, I have a true love of fish of all kinds! I have been eating fish since I was a little kid. I even worked at Bud’s Chicken and Seafood when I was in high school. My favorite type of fish is sushi-grade Tuna. That’s tuna that you just barely cook and then you eat it. Yum.

If I were to chose something that I don’t like it would be rice pudding (although I love rice and tapioca and raisins separately. I also don’t like olives. Yuck! Other than that, I eat pretty much everything.

Wow. You certainly got your message across Katie. There is no doubting how you feel about those foods.
I really love all those foods now but I didn’t when I was young like you.

I’m down with the broccoli thing, but I love fish and shrimp. The food I like least is cooked cabbage. Although the smell reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen (a good thing)it also smells! Honestly, I would never eat the stuff!

Katie, unfortunately there is only one food I don’t like (so far). That food is hominy. I like it when its ground into grits, but to just eat it in its regular form is disgusting to me. It reminds me of your description of how fish comes out of your mouth just as quickly as it went in! However, I have the same question as Mrs. Kolbert. What foods do you like? And why do you like them?

Steamed broccoli is absolutely disgusting because it’s mushy. Broccoli cooked on the barbeque, however, is crunchy and delicious. You’ve got to try it!

    Hi Katie,
I’m a teacher in Massachusetts and I can sure understand why you don’t like some of these foods. I liked your descriptions of how they make you feel. I won’t eat cooked vegetables (except sweet corn) because I hate the way they feel in my mouth. Good thing I have a big garden in the summer and can get fresh vegetables and eat salads all the time.

Kate, your voice in your writing comes through in this piece. I can tell you hate seafood and vegetables. I like your hook-”There’s no way I’m eating that! It pulled my into your writing and made we want to see what you were talking about. I like the details you give me about the fish-the smell and the texture. Good job!

    Hello Katie,

I have to agree with you that broccoli and fish are quite gross! I avoid them whenever possible, but I don’t mind eating shrimp when cooked right.
You’re right that the textures of food can turn your appetite. I can not stand tomatoes, but I love pizza. Is that weird?

Great job on the blog post,

    Hi Katie,

You did a great job with this post. But I have to disagree with you on all your dislikes. I like broccoli, but not raw. It has to be steamed. As someone who grew up on the coast of NC, I LUVVVVV seafood – all kinds. I even eat raw shellfish (oysters, clams, scallops)! Perhaps one day you will change your mind and like these things too.

I had to laugh when I read your statement “the biggest thing that bothers me is its green!” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told people “I won’t eat that…it’s green!” They laugh at me, but I can’t help wondering is my life really that worse off with NO avacadoes or brussel sprouts or broccoli in it? I don’t think so. Yes, I know vegetables are good for us, and I eat plenty of them! But I don’t think I have to love every vegetable out there. I’m sure you’d agree!

I’m with you on shrimp…but I will admit to loving fish! My mom is originally from Maine where the people eat LOTS of fish. So my brother and I grew up eating LOTS of fish. And I still love it! Especially when my brother Marc grills up some salmon with his special secret recipe! Yummy!!

My favorite part about your post is your description of broccoli as having a “shameful flavor”. Brilliant!!

You have a very descriptive way of telling about these foods. Very convincing. Personally I like fish and shrimp, but not the way you described it. My class is going to start using Kidblog in a week, so I was interested your post. Great job!

The voice in this blog post is very powerful, as was your use of imagery. Whether or not I agree with you, I have to admit that your story was very interesting.

I wonder if the cooking process and the freshness of these foods you mentioned has tainted your ideas about eating them. It’s true that cruciforms like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and brussel sprouts do give off a chemical that smells distinctively terrible, if they are not effectively cooked.

Your point about smells reminded me is that all our senses are linked. Smell is especially linked to taste. Thanks for the great post.

Katie, I love shrimp and fish but not so much broccoli.Nice job explaining why you hate these foods.
  16. Miss Reimers
    Katie,
After reading your blog, you have left me with a certainty that you hate broccoli, fish and shrimp! No questions necessary. Love your last line, “Don’t get me started on carrots”.

The only way my friend could get her daughter to eat broccoli, was to call them little trees. I liked the way you described broccoli as having hair! Never dreamed of thinking that this vegetable had hair.

My top 3 detestable foods are: peas, any egg that is not scrambled and okra.

Looking forward to a blog on the foods you do like. Keep up the great writing.

    I only like Shrimp!!! :)

Your post caught my attention because I am one of those people who like to eat almost everything. Your post is very well written and I must admit that your descriptive, full of emotions language almost made me reconsider my love of everything edible that comes from the sea:) I also thought of “frutti di mare” which was my daughter’s favorite snack when she was a little girl which some people find disgusting. Think of this…a bunch of tentacles and random parts of sea creatures marinated and served raw yet sooooo delicious. I guess everyone has their own taste although not too many people can express their likes and dislikes as well as you did. Your post also made me think about my own observation that it is often not the food that is the problem but the way it is prepared. Some foods have to be prepared right to have the right flavour and texture. Fish and broccoli belong to this group. Keep on writing Katie!

if this is one of mrs. rupp’s essays, you will get a 6! i’m with you on the fish, but i love shrimp and broccoli! maybe as you grow, you’ll agree!
