Al Capone Does My Shirts is a historical fiction book written by Gennifer Choldenko.  The story happens on Alcatraz during the 1930s.  There is a boy named Mouse who lives with his family.  His little sister Natalie, aka Nat, is a pain to live with.  She is always driving him crazy.   Mouse hates this place and wants to go back to Santa Fe, but his parents say no.  Moose calls Alcatraz, Devil’s Island.  His dad is a guard at the prison.  He is always busy so he never gets to play catch with his son Moose.  On  January 5,  1935,  Moose makes some new  friends who tell him about Al Capone.  They tell him about a plan to see Capone inside the prison where nobody is allowed to come, except for relatives from the prisoner’s family.   Moose thinks this idea isn’t safe but his friends tell him not to worry.  Moose’s  mom tells him about her getting a job so he now has to watch his little sister, Nat.  Moose is really stuck here and he wants to see Capone, but is it worth letting his mom down?  You will have to read this book to find out.

The  Small Adventure Of Popeye And Elvis is a realistic fiction book written by Barbara O’ Connor.  One day in Fayette, South Carolina, a boy named Popeye wakes up with it raining outside.  It always rains there.  He walks downstairs to see his grandma trying to remember the order of the kings and queens of England.  Why does she do that?  Popeye’s life is boring because every day is the same.  Everything changes when Elvis comes to town. They find a small adventure in a river.  They see a note in a bottle. They try to see who is sending these bottles.  However, Popeye doesn’t want his grandma, Velma, to find out what he and Elvis are doing.  Will Popeye and Elvis find out who is sending those bottles or will Velma ruin their adventure and possibly  their friendship?

I like this book because it is cool and it has it’s own little mystery.  On a scale of 1 through 10, I give it a 9.  If you like books with adventures, this book would be a great one to read.
