Bright Freedom’s Song  by Gloria  Houston is a really good historical fiction book.  It is about a girl named Bright Freedom and her family.  They did not like slavery, so if they found runaway slaves, they would help them to freedom.  Their job was dangerous, though; if they got caught, they would have gotten in big trouble.   As Bright got older she was able to help more.  Her dad got really sick and she had to take the runaway slaves to a safe place. Her dad did not think she could make it. The soldiers from the war came looking for their slaves, and Bright almost got caught.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this a 10. This book was really good.  I would recommend this book to people who like historical fiction and learning about how people helped slaves.  Have fun reading.

The Lost Hero  by Rick Riordan is very exciting.  Three new demigods are found at Wilderness School.  The kids are Jason, Leo, and Piper.  Jason lost his memory from Hera because Hera wanted to get his attention to help her. They go on a quest to save the gods.  Along the way they found he was born in the Roman times.

I woud rate this an 8 out of 10 because I think the author gave too much detail.  If he did not have some of the things we did not need to know, it would make the book shorter and easier to understand.  It was a book I didn’t want to put down, though, because it was exciting and action filled.  I would recommend this book to people who love Percy Jackson and like fantasy.  That person should read the Olympians series first though.  I’m sure that whoever reads this book will have a lot of fun!

The Sewing Machine by Rebekah Dorn is (as you could easily guess) about sewing machines.  It was published by Capstone Press in 2005.  The Sewing Machine talks about the first people to make a working sewing machine, the first sewing machines, how they work, and sewing machines today.  It also explains how sewing machines have changed over the years.

I learned that in 1790, Thomas Saint was the first person to patent his idea for a sewing machine.  I also learned that there is such a thing as a zig zag sewing machine and when sewing machines first came out they were mostly used in factories.  I thought women who had to make clothes would have one in there home but few did.

I didn’t really like this book.  I wouldn’t recommend this book to someone unless they loved learning about sewing machines.  I would rate this a 1 out of 10.  It was boring and not fun to read.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan is amazing!  It is about three teenage half-bloods, which means they are half mortal and half immortal, Percy, Anabeth, and Grover.  The three teenagers visit a mortal school to find more half-bloods, but while they are there they find a monster, who is the Vice Principal.  He attacks Percy and two new half-bloods.  While fighting the monster, the teenagers are joined by “The Hunters”, they fight, and then Anabeth and the monster fall over a cliff.  The leader of “The Hunters,” Lady Artimis, goes after the monster to try to kill it.  Then Percy, Grover, the other two half-bloods, and one of “The Hunters” go back to Half-Blood Hill.  While they are there, Percy, Grover, Thalia (one of the new half-bloods), and Zoe (one of “The Hunters”) find out they have to go on a quest in order to save Lady Artimis and Anabeth.  They have to find the real monster and make sure he doesn’t get other traitors to help him destroy Olympus.

I would rate this book 10 out of 10 because it, along with the rest of the series, is never boring.  I never wanted to stop reading this book.  I would recommend this book to people who love myths, traditional literature, or adventures.  Make sure you read the first two books in the series before reading The Titant’s Curse.  I hope you try my book.

Moon

by William Blake

The moon, like a flower

In heaven’s high bower

With silent delight

Sits and smiles on the night.

This poem came from the book A World of  Words, which is a collection of poems by different poets.  I chose this poem because it rhymes and sounds like the Flower poem that some kids recited in class.

I think the poet wrote this because he thinks the moon is pretty and it is happy.  I also think he wrote it to entertain kids because it is easy and fun to read. I know I could recite this to the class because it is short but fun.  I hope you like this poem too.
