Eggs by Jerry Spinelli is about a boy named David who went to live with his grandmother after his mother dies when she has an accident with a wet floor, not so slippery, but in the worst possible place, right in front of a stairwell. She slipped, not a five turn slip with a landing on the nose, but in the worst possible place. On his mother’s funeral, right before the burial, he grabs the turtle pin from her and hugs her one last time, never again to see his mother. So, no he’s stuck in the town of Perkiomen with his grandmother and father. Then, his life changes when he goes egg hunting and finds a girl lying on the ground with her eyes closed, still as a rock. He claims her as dead, but then sees her again at the library, sleeping! They soon get to know each other, and David begins a friendship with Primrose. Then they begin several hobbies together, such as giant worm hunting, sneaking out of home to meet, and they soon go on an adventure to see the sun rise in Philadelphia. On their journeys, David believes that if he can follow rules, that his mother will come back. I may have told too much, to find out if Dave’s mother does come back, READ THE BOOK!
On a scale of one to ten, I give it a seven, it was amazing, but I didn’t understand the entire book. If you like sad stories that eventually follow through with joy, this is the book for you!
