Treasures in the Dust by Tracey Porter. This genre is historical fiction. This book is about a girl named Violet who lives with her mother and father and they are very poor. All they have is a small cabin to live in and not a lot of food to eat. One day, a huge tornado hits where they live. All the houses were shattered into dust. They were astonished by the impact of the tornado. From that day on, they called it the “Deadly Day”. They had to rebuild and live in a tiny little shack. Violet went out one day to take a look at all the debris, and she found a beautiful necklace. She brought it home and showed it to her mother and she said, “Oh my, that looks like gold we can sell that for money!” If you want to know what happens next read the book.

Out of a 1-10, I give this book an 8. I really enjoyed the book, but sometimes it gets a little confusing. I would recommend this book to people who like old time stories.

Tigers is an informational book by Ann O. Squire.  It was published by Children’s Press in 2005. This book explains that tigers are important in the world and how they are very endangered. There are many breeds of tigers like the Bengal tiger, Siberian tiger, and the Indochinese tiger. There is one tiger that is called the White tiger and it is extinct. Tigers are very well camouflaged. They can sneak up on their prey very easily. Some tigers mark their territories by scratching a tree or roaring. A tiger’s roar can be heard about two miles away!

I learned some very interesting facts about tigers. Asians thought that tiger parts had special powers to cure diseases. The tiger whiskers were used for toothaches and tiger tails were used to cure skin diseases.  Another fact, is that people would hunt tigers, skin them and use them as house rugs. That’s why they became so endangered. Did you know that tigers can weigh 675 pounds? That’s big!

On a scale of 1-10, I would give this book a 10. I really loved reading this book about tigers, because it was very interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves animals and tigers. If you are a person who loves big animals, this book would be perfect for you!

The Rumpelstiltskin Problem is written by Vivian Vande Velde and it’s genre is traditional literature.  This book is about a troll named Rumpelstiltskin who wanted to eat a human baby. He mostly dined on sheep, snakes, spider toes and catfish whiskers. But he was getting tired of eating animal parts and wanted to try something different.  Then one day, he was deciding how to get away with eating a baby, so he tried to steal one.  Read the book if you want to know how Rumpelstiltskin tries to steal and eat the baby.

Out of a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7. I really like old fairy tales because sometimes it’s funny when they do things that are unusual . I recommend this book to people who like old fairy tales and unusual stories. I really hope you consider reading this book.
