Virginia Bound is a historical fiction by Amy Butler.  It’s about two children that have no home, get caught, and are sent to the New World as indentured servants.  Will they get split up?  Will they make it alive?  You have to read this book to find out.

If you enjoy historical fiction you should enjoy this book as much as I have.  I would rate this book a 10-10 because I enjoy the past and future stories.  I would recommend this book to  anyone who enjoys history.

Catching Fire is the amazing sequel to The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins.  It picks up with our heroes, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, returning home to District 12 after winning the Hunger Games, a brutal fight to the death between 24 tributes from 12 different districts, ages 12 to 18.    Katniss and Peeta are upset because they must try to return to a normal life after killing other children.  They are also upset because they must take a winners tour through the other 11 districts where they  must see the families of the tributes they killed in the games.   Just as they are feeling better, the government changes the rules of the Hunger Games and  Katniss and Peeta have to return to the games to fight against 2 previous winning tributes from the other 11 districts.  As Katniss feels the tension growing around her, she is only certain of 2 things.  She must keep Peeta alive, and, to do so, it will mean certain death for her.  Katniss knows that she is about to be tested like never before if she is to save Peeta from dying in the 75th Annual Hunger Games.

I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because, to me, it’s the best of the trilogy so far.  I think anyone who likes drama, suspense and thrills will love this fantasy adventure, but, reader beware, there is some violence.  I cant wait to read the 3rd and last book of the series, Mockingjay.

Penguins was written by Arthur Davis.  It is all about the different types of life stages of the penguins life cycle.  One important fact is that a penguin has feathers on it when it is young.  This means the penguin cannot swim.  When a penguin is young, it is fed by its mother by her passing the food from her throat to the chick.  It is actually one of the only ways the chick penguin can get its food, which is sad.  I would think that they would want to stay after a couple weeks but, sadly, they don’t,  they leave after only 9 or 10  weeks!

I would recomend this book to any one who enjoys penguins.  This book’s genre is informational.  I would give this book a 7 out of 10 because their is no thrill in it but it provides a lot of information about one of my favorite animals.  I sure do enjoy penguins.

Yeh-Shen is a Chinese Cinderella story retold by Ai-Ling Louie.  It is a story about how Yeh-Shen (in this case Cinderella) has a pet fish who will leap up onto the bank of the pond in which it lives, to be fed.  Unfortunately what Yeh-Shen doesn’t know is that the fish has magical powers.  Because she kept her friendship with the fish a secret, her stepmother became angry and killed the fish.  Yeh-Shen learns this from an old man who vanishes into thin air. The fish bones are able to give her anything she wishes for. After she discovers that there is a town dance, she asks the fish bones for an outfit to wear to the dance. The fish bones then give her a golden silk dress and a pair of golden glass slippers instead of rags to wear to the dance. When she goes to  the dance her stepsister and stepmother are already there. Then the prince falls in love with her and he tries to find the woman who lost the golden glass slipper at the dance.

This book is traditional literature.  I would give this book a 7 out of  10.  I do not prefer any type of Cinderella story because the idea of anyone or anything granting wishes just doesn’t  make sense to me.  Can you imagine a dead fish’s bones granting wishes whenever you wanted something?  Another reason why I didn’t really like it is because a man tells Yeh-Shen that her stepmother had killed her fish.  Then he vanishes into thin air!  I mean, I just can’t see that happening.  Can you?  But the reason that I gave it a 7 is because Ai-Ling Louie, the author, retold it well, putting  a lot of effort into the details.  I think that if you like traditional literature then you will like this book.

The Flower

by Robert Frost

Once in a golden hour

I cast to earth a seed

 Up there came a flower,

The people said a weed

To and fro they went

Through my garden bower

And muttering discontent

Cursed my and my flower

Then it grew so tall

It wore a crown of light

But thieves from o’er the wall

Stole the seeds by night

 Sowed it far and wide

By every town and tower

Till all the people cried

Splendid is the flower

Read my little fable

He that runs may read

Most can raise the flower now

For all have got the seed

Some are pretty enough

And some are poor indeed

And now again

The people call it but a weed

The Flower is by Robert Frost. I did this for a presentation in class and I know it by heart. It is about a man who finds a seed and plants it but it grows so fast that the people in his village call it a weed. You should read this poem to find out what happens to the flower. You should honestly consider this poem. I think it is one of the best poems that I have ever read!

I would honestly recomend this poem and much more by Robert Frost. I would give this poem a 10  because it’s that good! If you have a brother or sister you should read this poem to them. I think that any one who likes to read or likes poetry would love this book.
