Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to find the best websites to help you be the best chess player possible.  Please leave the link in the comment section of this website.  I have found a “vonderful” website with great tutorials that can be easily followed called How to Play Chess.

I look forward to your comments.

Sure, we get a day off from school on Memorial Day and it certainly lets me know that summer vacation is right around the corner, but what is Memorial Day really all about?  This week’s writing assignment is to do a bit of research on this American Holiday.   Don’t forget to use our online encyclopedias as well as other online resources.

If you “google” Memorial Day here is what you’ll find ~ 37,000,000 that’s thirty seven million links that may or may not be very helpful.  One way to narrow down this is to use Google’s “advanced” search and in the “search within a domain” type in .edu or .gov  Do you remember what these stand for?

.edu will give you only educational websites about Memorial Day

.gov will give you only government websites about Memorial Day

You could also search at places like History.com or Time for Kids and use their built in search features at their website.  I found a fantastic article at Time for Kids called The Meaning Behind Memorial Day

This is a well written article that quickly summarizes the history behind Memorial Day and ends with some nice suggestions on how we can celebrate on this day.

As you are reading online remember to read with a critical eye.  Just because it’s online doesn’t mean that there are no errors.  You may stumble across articles that give you slightly different information so be on the look out.

Happy Reading.
